Born: March 24th 1899 He was born in Lanarkshire on October 5th. 1900 as James Montgomery Fyfe
(he later added another f to be the same as his distant cousin Will Fyffe).
He was introduced to Geraldo at the Savoy Hotel by an enthusiatic lady
friend who gave him the name of Monte Rey! He performed with Geraldo and
his Gaucho Tango Band from August 1934 to it's end in October 1937. He
then moved to Joe Loss and his Orchestra, with whom he had appeared since
April 1936, and stayed with the band until June 1941. He then went solo
