CD BROADCAST 012

Born: March 24th 1899
Died: August 2nd 1966

He was born in Lanarkshire on October 5th. 1900 as James Montgomery Fyfe (he later added another f to be the same as his distant cousin Will Fyffe). He was introduced to Geraldo at the Savoy Hotel by an enthusiatic lady friend who gave him the name of Monte Rey! He performed with Geraldo and his Gaucho Tango Band from August 1934 to it's end in October 1937. He then moved to Joe Loss and his Orchestra, with whom he had appeared since April 1936, and stayed with the band until June 1941. He then went solo until he retired in 1952. He died in August 1982.
As both bands that he sang with were show bands, he did not make that many records with them, but appeared on stage a lot. I have no information about his solo recordings.
