The famous Czech singer from the "swing era" whose name was
Rudolf Antonín, pseudonym Dvorsky, was born on March 24th, 1899
in Dvor Králové nad Labem. His father named Václav
Antonín, worked as a clerk of the municipal office. Playing the
piano was his hobby and love, he always wanted to be a singer.
At the age of 16 he was a founder - member of a music band. He
called his group
the Family. From 1919 to 1922 he worked as a singer and a band
- master in the cabaret "_ervená sedma" (Red Seven).
From the year 1924 he devoted his life to music and played with
his orchestra in
Prague clubs: Chapeau Rouge, Cascades, Esprit, Hotel Esplanade,
Lucerna. During the years 1926 - 1941 he played in Marianské Lázny,
Karlovy Vary and Prague. In the years 1929 - 1930 he played with
his band in Adlon Club, Copenhagen, Denmark. During 1924 to 1944
he operated in
Radiojournal, where he had over thousand programmes with dance
music. From 1929 he played in seventy films like an actor, a
singer and a conductor.
He was a composer and a pianist too. He composed songs, dances
and musical comedies. He founded his first orchestra in 1924.
It was called R. A.
Dvorsky and his Melody Boys. These are some name of the towns
and countries, which he visited with his band: London, Budapest,
England, France, Italy,
Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Yugoslavia. His son Miroslav
who was a conductor died in 1947. R. A. Dvorsky died on August
2nd, 1966
