My interest in music from the period 1925 through 1948 started way back when I was growing up in the United Kingdom. As a child in the early 1950’s, my parents had an old wind-up gramophone. In the closet next to it were two boxes filled with old 78 shellacs. Most of the records were “Broadcast”, with some “Decca” and “HMV” Most of them were recordings from the early 1930’s through mid-1945. What great sounds they were!

In 1986, my partner and I decided to move to the resort island of Ibiza off the coast of Spain. There, we opened a bar and cabaret, into which we booked acts from Germany, England, Sweden, and Holland. The season in Ibiza started at Easter and finished on the 31st of October. At the end of the season, my partner and I would leave Ibiza and spend the winter in Germany with friends. While there, I accumulated many CD’s and LP’s of German jazz, swing, and hot dance music from the period of 1925 through 1948.

Upon returning to the United States in 1995, I continued to collect this type of music from all over Europe, accumulating over 15,000 music files.

What was I to do with all these files? A friend in Germany put me in contact with the on-line broadcasting network Live365. After careful consideration, I decided to share all my wonderful music with everyone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Organizing and presenting the music has been quite an experience for me, as I have met and continue to meet so many people. I am still collecting much more of this music from an era that has almost been forgotten by most of the modern world.
